Letter from Sonya Crudup,Chief Operating Officer,

Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice:

As we begin this New Year I'd like to share with you an exciting advocacy opportunity from RCRC next week. It’s called Trust Women Week, and will take place from January 20-27, 2012. This unique activist campaign will enable you to have an impact on issues that matter regardless of where you live!

During this week of action we will send one million messages to the decision-makers in our country, including members of the U.S. Congress, state governors and legislators. We need your voice to join us and let Congress know it’s time to stop the attacks on women’s reproductive health

Trust Women Week is a special collaboration between RCRC, MoveOn.org and nearly 50 other reproductive justice organizations. We have banded together to lift our collective voices to stop the war on women. As people of faith, we have a uniquely important role in letting our elected officials know that reproductive health and rights cannot be bargained away in heated political decisions.

Last year we witnessed devastating legislation that had real consequences in the lives of women and families all around our country. States enacted 92 anti-abortion provisions in 2011the highest number ever. Congress proposed efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and let hospitals deny services to pregnant women. The Secretary of Health and Human Services refused to make Plan B emergency contraception available to women of all ages on drugstore shelves. And even though a personhood amendment was defeated in Mississippi, sponsors are attempting to introduce similar ballot measures in six more states.

During Trust Women Week, you will be able to send customized messages based on the issues you are passionate about to those who have the political decision-making power. These messages include:

●      Reproductive rights are human rights.

●      Women are watching and we vote!

●      Keep abortion safe, legal, accessible and affordable.

●      Stand up and be counted for reproductive justice.

●      We are the 99%. Fix the economy, and stop the war on women!

This mobilization effort is being coordinated by the California-based Silver Ribbon Campaign to Trust Women and is timed to counter demonstrations by opponents of reproductive justice on the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, January 22, 2012

One of our resolutions this year is to: Ramp up RCRC's challenges to religious extremists and remain the compassionate moral voice of people of faith committed to women’s health and dignity. What better way to begin 2012 than speaking up during Trust Women Week? Please check your inbox in the upcoming week for more details about how you can get involved to ensure that your voice is heard.

For peace and faith,

Sonya Crudup
